I just finished reading The Shack, and as a person who was raised Muslim and slowly lost any religious devotion by the age of 14, it was incredibly interesting to place myself inside a novel so wrapped around the Christian faith. But I enjoyed it a lot.
There were a few sections I would like to remember, so I want to quote them here and share them with anyone who is interested. :)
Papa (God): “…just because I work incredible good out of unspeakable tragedies doesn’t mean I orchestrate the tragedies… Grace doesn’t depend on suffering to exist, but where there is suffering you will find grace in many facets and colors.”
Jesus: “Who said anything about being a Christian? I’m not a Christian…// Those who love me come from every system that exists. They were Buddhists or Mormons, Baptists or Muslims, Democrats, Republicans and many who don’t vote or are not part of any Sunday morning or religious institutions. I have followers who were murderers and many who were self-righteous. Some are bankers and bookies, Americans and Iraqis, Jews and Palestinians. I have no desire to make them Christian, but I do want to join them in their transformation into sons and daughters of my Papa, into my brothers and sisters, into my Beloved.”
Papa: “Forgiveness is first for you, the forgivers, to release you from something that will eat you alive; that will destroy your joy and your ability to love fully and openly.
Yes, that’s what love is. It’s what makes the game become the falcon, the falcon become the man, and man, in his turn, the desert. It’s what turns lead into gold, and makes the gold return to the earth.
Honestly, look at these versatile mother fuckers.
They can be
Eaten on the go
Ugh. Potato appreciation post.
For curledupwithabook, who requested more Vlogbrothers. :)
“No dreamer is ever too small; no dream is ever too big.”
Dear Tumblr: It’s been far too long! I’ve been incredibly busy finally putting my dreams to the test, making them a reality. I’ve been yearning for experience, gaining knowledge, meeting floundering fools and learning about basking bonobos, exploring the realities of the world and always searching for more to learn! And I’m about to start a new adventure this week to a place I’ve never been before. Wish me luck, Tumblr! Everything is beautiful where I am :)
Is it odd that at this moment what I really want is a photo of myself and an intoxicated, half-naked man (attractiveness unimportant) standing in the midst of a joyous riot in D.C.?
I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.
What is really destroying America?
